Methods and apparatus for generating and processing synthetic and absolute real time environments
Abstract: A system for generating and processing synthetic and absolute real time remote environments for interaction with a user and her biological senses is comprised of seven modules. These modules store, retrieve and process data to generate an output which interfaces with the system user’s biological senses. These modules also track user data to accurately place the user in the generated and processed model. Various embodiments of the system user sensory interface are provided including visual and aural input devices and a three dimensional chamber having interactive tactile output via matrix-addressed, electromechanically operated rods driving a flexible skin. Inventor: Redmond; Scott (Fresno, CA) Assignee: Redmond Productions, Inc. (San Francisco, CA) Appl. No.: 07/483,547 Filed: February 22, 1990

Jan. 2, 1994 Scott Redmond created the first working demonstration of a pre VRML networked interactive 3D video world network. The term VRML was coined by Dave Raggett in a paper called “Extending WWW to support Platform Independent Virtual Reality”[3] submitted to the First World Wide Web Conference[4] in 1994, and first discussed at the WWW94 VRML BOF established by Tim Berners-Lee, where Mark Pesce presented the Labyrinth demo he developed with Tony Parisi[5] and Peter Kennard.[6] In October 1995, at Internet World, Template Graphics Software (TGS) demonstrated a 3D/VRML plug-in for the beta release of Netscape 2.0 by Netscape Communications.[7]
